They painted the negatives, Audrey. Photographers spent hours fixing a negative before the final prints were made. In extreme cases, the photographer would even scratch the emulsion from the negative in some spots. I wish this book had a photo of the negative. I don't think it did, darn it.
I love seeing stuff like this because everyone assumes airbrushing is a new thing. ;] And look at all those lovely freckles they got rid of. Aww. -Andi x

WOW! I did not know that they did this much retouching back then. I wonder how they did it...with a brush?
